Flame of the Emperor. DreadTober Week 4

Week four of DreadTober, I've fallen very very behind on getting my dread built and painted.   So he's at least built now.  Left arm has been magnetized to swap out.

Some Help

So I know I'm supposed to be working on my dread for DreadTober but this guy has been sitting on my painting table getting work in little bursts of activity.  I've also found I've gotten to the point I need to stop trying to work on him.  You can go down a rabbit hole trying to do too much detail.

I need to finish the organ in his hand and touch up the shoulders and arms which were don separately from the body and just now glued on.  Then finish out the base.  The base has really turned out fantastically and I hope to only improve that look.

Lets try this again.

Ok so I'm going to try this again this year.  Dreadtober!!!  The online community striving to build and paint a dreadnought or dreadnought sized model in the month of October.

I've tried this in the past and its been a good motivation to get something done.

This kit was given to me about a year ago and I just kept putting him off till I had more time.

No time like the present.

mummm plasma

Its been awhile since I've posted. Life has gotten in the way of minis but time is slowly becoming more manageable. I've wanted these guys for awhile as a bit heavier punch for the Primaris marines.
While the marines are cool I'm not sure I like the way the muzzles attach to the front. They don't fit flush.

Fail

Just like Last year I failed to complete the Dreadtober challenge. I've got quite a bit of progress done on the new Dread but he is not complete. I will get some photos of him tonight and post up my shame. He only needs a few hours more to be complete.

Dreadtober Starting shot

Proof of new model for the Dreadtober challenge.  I'll be assembling into 4 parts, legs, torso, arms.  Priming and then detail work before final assembly.

He'Stan has a brand new ride!

So this year for my birthday I bought myself a small present for my Salamanders.   The Land Raider Achilles I've been drooling over for ages.  Spent some time the other day getting the kit together.  There are some minor issues with the build instructions that made a small headache getting the main body together but than things just fell into shape.

I've still got to puddy in some gaps and then its on to painting!!!!

FIRE!!!!!!

Ya these guys are gonna be fun, I like the look and the stats look great.

I'm not wild about the hoses that connect the arms to the back sections but overall the suits look fun!

Welcome to Dreadtober

This year I'm taking the challenge started by the folks over at Brokenpaintbrush.com to work on dreadnought or dreadnought style 40k minis in the month of October.  Its a chance to challenge yourself to get paint on a model.

As most folks know I have a horrible follow through on painting my minis.  This will be a good chance to focus on a character model I've had for quite a while and will make a nice show piece for my Salamanders restart.  Because most of the base color work also needs to be done on his simpler cousin the 30k contemptor I'm going to push myself to do both.

My friends Dan and Glenn of The Narrative Guys have also thrown in on the challenge, check out their work while they also plan to run a fantastic local event and some really nice narrative gaming at LVO 2017

My models have already been assembled and Ashmantle has paint on him, but both will be repainted with a new color of green that I've chosen for my Salamanders.  The painting time should be tomorrow as today was spent on prep and getting my space cleared to paint.

I'll try to track the colors used as much as I can and put in at least weekly progress reports.

A brother takes up the black

OK couldn't resist the call back to the other watch who wears black.  Been working on the start of a Xenos kill team to either play as a sternguard squad, or play in small kill team games.  I haven't come up with a name for him yet, but one of the guys had to be a flamer wielding Salamander for sure.

Bits from the new sternguard box, 10 year old Kill team lead parts, and sweet FW Salamanders shoulder pads.  Pictured with him are the squad sgt with a power sword, and another trooper with a heavy bolter for flavor.

Pimp my ride

Yo Yo Yo welcome to another edition of Pimp My Ride!  Today we've got a special treat for you, Space Marine Air Support.

Not just any air-support mind you, we got ourselves a dusty old Dark Angels Dark Talon, and pimped it out to make one bitch'n Salamanders Storm Talon

We stripped off that single gatling canon and replaced it with a top of the line twin linked assault canon rig.   We built out the wing pods to be interchangeable between top of the line sky hammer missiles and every ones favorite Las Canons!!

So check her out!
Ohhhh Yaaaaaa

Air Salamander

Flying boxcar of doom!!!!
So its been awhile since I've updated. Honestly I've been cheating on my Salamanders with the Tau.

I'm sure they will be best buddies when I get them on the table together, at least that's what the main rule book tells me. I did decide though that I needed to put the Tau down for a few days and work on a project that's been sitting around for quite awhile.

The storm Eagle!!!

I bought this kit last year as a birthday present to myself.  I figured I should go ahead and spend my birthday day off this year finally putting it together.   That was a mistake.  Worst way ever to spend my birthday off, this kit almost got to fly under its own power.  I've assembled a fair share of ForgeWorld kits, each brings their own challenges.  This one how ever is probably one of the hardest I've ever tackled.   Even after extensive heating and alignment, nothing went together they way it was supposed too.  The kit is fully assembled with the exception of the windshield that will go on last.  It will probably take me another full day of gap filling and cleanup before I can start the painting process.

The cool part, with this kit being almost 75% resin, it will cost me very little on Ebay to pick up enough parts to make a Storm Raven out of the leftovers!.  That will give me a Talon, Raven and Eagle.  Of course I have plans to replace my current talon with a much better model, but that is an update for a later date!

Now I just have to hope they don't finally come out with the plastic Thunder Hawk kit, then I'll truly have to have a fully air mobile Salamanders force.

Little Bird

Update on the Storm Talon project.  Once I got it started it went together pretty well.  I've locked the wings in place and will be mirroring the inside of the canopy.  The weapon pods are magnetized for LC and the two missile types.

So there she is, ready for paint.

Ya I'm weak

So it was on sale! Like really really on sale. At the least it will make a great escort for the Storm Eagle

SM Tech Support Day (we lost count)

Master of the Forge Heath
As some of you may remember I started a Master of the Forge on a Bike project back in September.  I took him with me on the road so I would have something to do at night in the hotel.  He didn't see much progress when I got back, but saw plenty of table time.  Well he's going with me to WarGamesCon and I needed to get him finished.  Here he is in a quick rough shot before i do any touch ups or decals.  I think he turned out great for a bunch of bits and the awesome conversion beamer kit from Chapter House Studios

Storm Eagle unboxing

So my first foray into an unboxing video.  The kit is really really cool and I can't wait to get it built.  Enjoy and try not to laugh too much.

The Eagle has landed!

So I came home late Saturday night to find a wonderfully huge package on the front step.  The Storm Eagle had arrived from the UK!!!  The wife was amused by my sitting in bed reading over the assembly instructions at midnight after a long day.   I will try to do some sort of official un-boxing tonight, but for now gaze upon the resin glory!

Project: Space Marine tech support

So you know how your getting old? You pack a mini and paints for your week stay in Vegas. Really though it's all day tech seminars and I play 40k so I dint have money to gamble. I chose a simple smallish mini to bring. My cobbled together master if the forge on bike with conversion beamer. The cheese is strong with this one. Our first hurdle with the project came with a spot inspection by the Inquisition aka the TSA. They thought they should check out my checked luggage. Hell I wasn't gonna do carry on because I was bringing a mini.

Oh well. I've got my painting station set up which house keeping should love. Well I'm going to paint for an hour before heading to bed I'll try to update my progress through out the week.

Your labors are rewarded

In honor of this past Labor Day the great forge father smiled upon his men.  The Saturday of Labor Day weekend I received not only the new conversion beamer from Chapterhouse Studios but the mighty Brother Ashmantle from Forgeworld!!!

Brother Ashmantle has gotten his bath to clean up the mold release and prep him for construction and priming.  This one I'm really really gonna take my time on this one, he really deserves it.

Dozers!

Finally got the dozer blades mounted.  They don't go on perfect but the look great and should paint up pretty well.
